8 Resolutions to Better Yourself

by Jordyn Cormier –

While your belly may still be happy and rotund from the seasonal merriment, the new year is fast approaching. Inevitably, it’s resolution time.

This year, instead of assigning yourself numerous resolutions that you will surely ditch by January 31st, why not take this chance to better yourself on a more permanent, less physical level?

Embrace and ditch these particular habits and you’ll succeed in making the new year version of yourself the best it can possibly be.
  • Stop feeling guilty.

We spend a considerable amount of thought-energy on guilt — and where does it get us? It doesn’t solve problems; it ironically worsens them by building up stress which takes an incredible toll on your body and mind. Instead, take a proactive approach to life and improve the situation. Don’t just sit around feeling sorry for yourself. No matter how bad you feel today, tomorrow is always a new day, and a new chance to live better.

  • Accept yourself as you are.

You are imperfect. Deal with it. Everyone is flawed in myriad ways. Thinking that you’re somehow any worse than anyone else is incorrect. Everyone makes mistakes. But, by practicing confidence and self-acceptance, you will exude the illusion of ‘togetherness’ that everyone is striving to achieve. Heck, you may even start to fool yourself!

  • Exercise, meditate and eat natural foods.

No one’s telling your to try and win the next Ironman competition, but these 3 pillars are pivotal to a healthy, happy lifestyle. Think about it as a trifecta: Some gentle, fun exercise every day keeps you young; 5 or 10 minutes of meditation will nix your chronic stress; wholesome, natural foods will help your body function the way it was meant to. Start incorporating these into your life, bit by bit, week by week, and notice how much better you feel. Your body will love you for it.

  • Embrace your dreams.

Everyone has dreams. But, for most, that’s where they stay. Make your dreams reality this year; they’re not impossible. Make a realistic, step-by-step timetable to help you achieve your wildest, most desired dreams. It may take an entire year — it may take 10 — but you’ll be pursuing your dreams and enjoying the experience instead of just letting them flit about and wither within your mind.

  • Stop fearing the unknown.

Take chances this year. Fear of the unknown is what squashes most dreams. Comfort is overrated; try something you’ve never done before. Get out there. You may just discover a whole new dimension to yourself! What’s the worst that can happen?

  • Stop stressing about money.

Again, stressing only worsens the situation. Instead, do something about it. Be proactive. Financial stress can make you miserable. Figure out a way to deal with it and trust that, with effort, it will all work out in the end. You’ll feel the load on your shoulders lighten considerably.

  • Do things that make you feel strong and independent.

This is especially true if you are in a long-term relationship with loved ones and friends. We can get so comfortable and dependent on our partners and comrades that we lose a bit of ourselves — that beautiful, spunky spark.

This year, take chances and rediscover yourself out on your own. Take a solo trip, delve into a new class by yourself, talk to interesting new people. It will bring further dimension and excitement into your life — and your relationships.

  • Let go of negativity.

The counterclockwise whirlpool of your mind can suck even your most intrinsic happiness and positivity out of you if you allow it. The beautiful thing is: you’re in control. You can cut the branches of negative thought off at the source.

Most of what we experience in life is heavily influenced by the mind, meaning you have the power to alter and improve your experiences through positive thinking. Kick out negativity and negative words like ‘can’t’, ‘no’, ‘won’t’, ‘too hard’, and all the rest. Negativity is simply a waste of precious, beautiful time.

This is the year to make yourself into what you want to be. Carve your own path and thrive in the positivity and confidence these habits will offer your life.

So, go ahead and do it — there’s no better time. It’s all within you.

Ending the Violence

by Karen Wright –

I passed a church today displaying a sign, “Resolve to stop the violence.”  Not your run-of-the-mill vow to lose 10 pounds or start eating more vegetables. Stop the violence. How in the world can I stop the violence? Could I have prevented the massacre at Sandy Hook Elementary? Can I calm the fighting in the endless Israel-Palestine war? The inventory of violence in our world is crushing.
What can I do? What can you do?
Virtually nothing – as long as we believe that violence is a behavior. No commad or legislation has or ever will, control human behavior. And lord knows we’ve tried. More police, more laws, more restrictions. Yet, all we achieve is more fear. Year after year we helplessly ask the same question – “How do we stop this from ever happening again?”
Our only hope is to recognize that violence begins before behavior.
It festers and breeds in our every thought of anger or judgment. Condemnation, jealousy, resentment, contempt, prejudice, hatred, ridicule, loathing, scorn, sarcasm.
All those lead-heavy thoughts pull us into darkness and ravage our souls.
Perhaps you don’t quite dive to the depths of these black emotions, but what about complaining, blame, grouchiness, accusation or suspicion? Few, if any of us, can say we don’t ‘go there’ on occasion.
Regardless of the severity of our negativity, it’s all energy and energy created does not dissipate. It transforms into a physical reality.
Every thought of anger and hatred is destructive. Even their milder cousins, annoyance and dislike, destroy. First, they attack your own peace of mind and then they add to humanity’s collective state of fear. Each drop of negativity adds to the bucket of fear – and fear spawns attack. Those who do not fear do not injure.
To stop the violence in the world we must stop the fear in ourselves.
  • Fear urges, “Do unto them before they do unto you.”

  • It beckons, “Take more than you need or they will take it all.”

  • It warns, “Evil is around every corner. Arm yourself.”

The sick-to-your-stomach feeling you have, when you’re cloaked in negativity isn’t confined to your physical body. It’s an energy that is released into the world and bonds with and attracts other such energies. When the collective level of disturbance is powerful enough, it manifests in an outbreak of violence.
This you can do – stop the violence by refusing to let thoughts of harm enter the world through your mind. Easier said than done? Yes. But, let me ask this, “How difficult is it to continually feel the churn of anger in your gut?”
How delicious would it be to feel generosity and curiosity instead?
Each thought you have is your contribution to the world’s condition. You can end violence by stopping it in you first.

12 Promises You Should Make to Yourself and Keep Forever

by Marc and Angel Chernoff –
When you become your own best friend, life is easier.

Life is not all rainbows and butterflies.  It can be tough sometimes.  And you’ve paid a heavy price to get this far, so the best option is to really make it count by moving forward from where you are.

Free yourself from the world’s negativity – from the sources of ignorance telling you what you can and cannot do – by promising to look ahead, to live ahead and to get ahead.  In other words, start making positive promises to yourself!

Promise to fight back, to fight harder, to laugh louder and longer and slap adversity back into its seat whenever it dares to stand against you.  Promise to be a force to be reckoned with – because you are a force to be reckoned with.

Make these promises to yourself and keep them forever.
Repeat after me: “I promise…”
  1. “I will not hold the past against myself.” Your problems, your weaknesses, setbacks, regrets and mistakes teach you if you’re willing to learn, or they will punish you if you’re not.   So let them teach you, every day.  Take everything as a lesson learned.  If you regret some of the decisions you have made in the past, stop being so hard on yourself.  At that time, you did your best with the knowledge you had.  At that time, you did your best with the experience you had.  Your decisions were made with a younger mind.  If you were to make these decisions with the wisdom you have today, you would choose differently.  So give yourself a break.  Time and experience has a wonderful way of helping us grow and learn to make better choices today, for ourselves and those we care for.
  2. “I will own my life and never deny responsibility for it.” – Through the grapevine, you may have learned that you should blame your parents, your teachers, your mentors, the education system, the government, etc., but never to blame yourself.  Right?  It’s never, ever your fault… WRONG!  It’s always your fault, because if you want to change, if you want to let go and move on with your life, you’re the only person who can make it happen.  It’s YOUR move to make.  It’s YOUR responsibility.  Own it!
  3. “I will speak kindly and consciously to myself.” – Wait, what did you just say to yourself?  Were they the inspiring, encouraging words you would speak to a friend?  Or were they the belittling remarks you might shout to an enemy if you had no heart.  Or the negative assessments about life you would utter if you had no faith?  All day long we speak silently to ourselves, and a part of us believes every word.  So stay mindful, and ask yourself, “If I had a friend who always spoke to me in the same way that I am speaking to myself right now, how long would I allow that person to be my friend?”  (Read Loving What Is.)
  4. “I will listen to what my heart and soul is telling me.” – When something feels right, that means it is right for you (at least it is worth looking into).  And if you genuinely feel deep down that something is wrong, it probably is.  Pay attention to your authentic feelings, and follow where they lead.  When you’re following your inner voice, doors tend to eventually open for you, even if they mostly slam at first.
  5. “I will live a life that feels right to me, not one that looks right to others.” – Give yourself permission to follow the path that makes YOU happy.  And realize that some people in your life will refuse to walk beside you as you embark on this journey; they simply won’t approve no matter what you say, and that’s OK.  Sometimes when you commit yourself to creating your own happiness, it clashes with the perceptions of others.  Sometimes when you gain something great, you have to let go of something else.  And sometimes this ‘something else’ is a relationship that only wants you to do what they want you to do.
  6. “I will let go of relationships that are obviously not meant to be.” – Most people come into your life temporarily simply to teach you something.  They come and they go and they make a difference.  And it’s OK that they’re not in your life anymore.  Not all relationships last, but the lessons these relationships bring to you do.  If you learn to open your heart and mind, anyone, including the folks who eventually drive you mad, can teach you something worthwhile.  Sometimes it will feel weird when you realize you spent so much time with someone you are no longer connected to, but that’s exactly how it’s supposed to be.  You are exactly where you’re supposed to be.  We all are.  (Angel and I discuss this in detail in the “Relationships” chapter of 1,000 Little Things Happy, Successful People Do Differently.)
  7. “I will not let any situation permanently steal my smile.” – Even when times are tough, take a moment to pause and remember who YOU are.  Take a moment to reflect on the things that have real and lasting meaning in your life.  And then smile about how far you’ve come.  Honestly, nothing in this world is more beautiful and powerful than a smile that has struggled through the tears.  Any fool can be happy when times are easy.  It takes a strong soul with real heart to develop smiles out of situations that make us weep.  No matter how long it takes, it will get better.  Keep going.  Tough situations build strong people in the end.
  8. “I will celebrate and appreciate the life I have.” – Too many people overvalue what they are not and undervalue what they are.  Don’t be one of them.  Take a breath of fresh air.  The past is behind you.  Focus on what you can do today, not on what you could’ve or should’ve done yesterday.  Remember, for everything you’ve lost, you’ve gained something else.  Appreciate what you have and who you are today.  Life does not have to be perfect to be wonderful.  Count your blessings, not your troubles.  It costs nothing to be positive, and it changes things for the better.  Your thoughts are yours to control, so make good use of them to give your actions and your life a powerful advantage.
  9. “I will realize and use my power to make a difference.” – The most common way people give up their power is by thinking they don’t have any.  Don’t do this.  The world needs you.  In a world filled with doubt, you must dare to dream.  In a world filled with anger, you must dare to forgive.  In a world filled with hate, you must dare to love.  In a world filled with distrust, you must dare to believe.  And once you do, I promise, you will find that power you once thought you lacked.
  10. “I will dedicate myself to personal excellence.” – Anything worth doing, is worth doing right.  And excellence is never an accident.  It’s the result of high intention, focused effort, intelligent direction, skillful execution, and the vision to see obstacles as opportunities.  It’s also important to note that excellence cannot be judged by looking at where you are at any given point in time, but by measuring the distance you have traveled from the point where you started.  It’s about being diligent and making progress – either a step forward or a lesson learned – day in and day out.  (Read The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People.)
  11. “I will keep stretching myself beyond my previous level of comfort.” – Just because you’re struggling doesn’t mean you’re failing.  Every great success requires some type of worthy struggle to get there.  Know this!  When you’re struggling, that’s when you’re growing stronger and smarter.  The more time you spend there, the faster you learn.  It’s better to spend an extremely high quality ten minutes growing, than it is to spend a mediocre hour running in place.  Every day, you want to practice at the point where you are on the edge of your ability, stretching yourself over and over again, making mistakes, stumbling, learning from those mistakes and stretching yourself even farther.
  12. “I will embrace the changes I know I need to make.” – Life is a balancing act of holding on and letting go – of staying put and moving on.  We strive to make the right choices, but how do we know when it is truly time to move forward with our lives?  The signs aren’t always easy to accept, but they are there and you know it.  Relationships, jobs, and even the cities we live in have expiration dates.  Sometimes we hold on to what’s not working out of fear that we won’t be able to adapt to necessary changes.  And thus, the outcome is always the same: more pain, immense frustration, and lasting regret.  Be smarter than that.  Embrace the changes you know you need to make.

Afterthoughts

In a world where vows are often left unfulfilled – where making a pledge means less than it used to – where promises seem like they’re made to be broken – it would be nice to see words come back into power, wouldn’t it?

Words can be twisted into any shape, so you must be careful not to be careless.  Remember this when you make promises to yourself.  Your promises must be backed by devoted action.

The image you have of yourself in the future depends on the actions you watch yourself take today. Promise yourself and then prove it!

The floor is yours…

Which of the points above resonate with you the most?  What promises do you want (or need) to make to yourself?  Leave a comment below and share your thoughts with us.

What Kind of Energy Are You Putting Out There?

by Gwen Randall-Young –

Each of us emits “energy” into our surroundings.

Think how easy it is to detect a change in the atmosphere when someone is angry with us or how positive the mood is when we are having fun, joking around with a loved one.

This energy is palpable and we have all experienced the energy of other people. If the energy is positive, it feels good to be around that person. If it is negative, we want to pull away because that energy affects us: we feel tense, irritated, it brings us down or we feel like we are walking on eggshells.

Just as we are affected by the energy of others, they are affected by ours. Therefore, we need to be aware of just what we are putting out there into the environment shared by others. Just as we take care of our personal hygiene so we do not offend others, we should practice good “psychological hygiene.”

“For every minute you are angry you lose sixty seconds of happiness.”
–Ralph Waldo Emerson

Negative energy can be toxic to others.

It originates in thought and can affect others whether we voice it, show it in our behavior or simply keep it to ourselves. Negative energy is generated by thoughts that are critical, judgmental, belittling, rejecting, angry or polarizing.

One negative person can affect an entire office or unsettle an entire household. Being in a “bad mood” does not justify making life miserable for everyone around us. While you are shaking the dirt off your shoes before entering your home or place of work, also make a point of “shaking off” any negative energy you might be carrying. Others will appreciate it and you will feel better.

Internalized Messages

by Egan Sanders –

Often people who are looking to express their full potential ascribe great power to positive thinking, affirmation, prayer and visualization. A goal is set to create a better life by reversing and transforming negative messages. In working on this goal it can feel as if we are fighting a fierce, uphill battle to change undesirable parts of our psychological and emotional programming.
One source of these self-defeating thoughts is that from birth we pick up and then internalize both positive and negative ideas from our experiences, surroundings and the mass consciousness. Many negative messages get planted early on and then steadily grow over the years like hidden weeds. They can unconsciously become an integral part of our attitudes, beliefs and reality.
This process can have unanticipated consequences. A drive to create a financial fortune, for example, can be based on a feeling of inferiority. The desire for fame can stem from a hidden belief that to be of true value you must be loved by the masses. Accepting abuse in a relationship can originate from being brainwashed as a child to accept a low self- image.
Here are a series of loving, supportive messages that can assist you to clear away negative concepts. There is no complicated technique to work with them; imagine telling yourself these things as you read them, and imagine that everyone you meet and that everyone you know, communicates these ideas to you in their own way.
1. You Are Enough
  • You are innately good. Everything about you is created from goodness. You are more than good enough.
  • You are valid. Your thoughts are valid. Your feelings are valid. Your viewpoint is valid. You deserve respect, compassion and fair treatment.
  • It is okay to honor your deepest, truest feelings. You can trust your deepest, truest feelings. You can listen to and act upon your deepest, truest feelings.
  • It’s okay to be different from other people; you are a one of a kind creation.
  • It is okay to see things differently than other people.
  • You are an explorer. You are exploring life in your own unique way.
  • You are fine just the way you are.
2. You are Loved Unconditionally by a Loving, Universal Presence
  • Receiving love is as easy as breathing.
  • A loving, Universal Presence loves you no matter what. The only requirement to receive love is to exist.
  • The presence of love in many forms is always at hand.
  • Love is omnipresent. The supply of love is infinite. Love exists everywhere.
  • You can receive all the love you desire. You are surrounded by love. When you focus on love, you are love.
  • You can allow yourself to have the awareness and acceptance that you are loved, and that you are love, and that you are enough.
  • You are equal to everyone else – no matter what. What you feel and think do count.
  • You have unconditional love for yourself and all seeming “others”.
  • You are able to reframe the seeming negative into the obviously positive by imagining that everything you see and experience is your own creation.
  • You are worthy of being loved and accepted just as you are.
  • You can praise yourself. You can acknowledge yourself.
  • It’s okay to make an honest mistake; you learn as you go.
3. You Can Have What You Want
  • You are worthy and deserving. You deserve good things. You have an awareness and acceptance of your intrinsic deserve-ability. You deserve health, wealth, love, expression and well-being.
  • There is plenty for all. You have unlimited resources to work with. You can create whatever you want with ease, joy, fun and wonder. It is okay to have and be connected to and surrounded by what you want, desire and prefer.
  • It is okay to be happy, to have good things in your life, and feel supported. You are only responsible for your own happiness; by doing what is loving and honoring for yourself you are an example of it to others.
  • Your outer world can be changed from within yourself. You are a creator; you can consciously create your reality in any way that you prefer. You are free of the past. You can write your own future. You can easily release anything that is not for your highest good. It is a joy to embrace the new that is truly good for you.
  • You look for the outer evidence that supports the reality of what you want in your own life. You can trust the universe to bring you what you want at the right time and in the right way, once you have gotten clear about what you want and asked for it.
  • You can trust and allow your Highest Good. You are free.
4. You are Unlimited
  • If you persist and insist – the impossible cannot resist. Everything is connected – you are connected to everything.
  • You have the knowledge and the power to do, be, have or experience anything.
  • You can do it. It is possible. You can create whatever you want to do, be, have, and/or experience.
  • You are connected to and supported by the energies, people, resources, ideas and power that allow you the infinite ability to create the reality that you most prefer.
  • Universal Law allows you to be a free being and a free creator.
  • You can expand beyond what is possible in your reality with ease, joy, fun and wonder. Thriving, succeeding, expanding, and expressing are choices.

  • Ease, joy, fun and wonder unfold before you.
Just one new idea can make a difference when you apply it consistently. There are many effective ways to change harmful, internalized messages. What would your life be like if even just a handful of the above ideas became permanently programmed into your own mind? It is up to you to give yourself new messages, new actions and a new reality.

10 Important Questions to Ask Yourself

by Marc and Angel Chernoff and Mark Manson –

At the end of the day, the questions we ask ourselves determine the type of people we become.

When you’ve been running a successful personal development blog and life coaching business for the better part of a decade, one thing becomes crystal clear: Everyone has the same basic wants and needs.
Over the years Angel and I have gotten to know thousands of people of different ethnic backgrounds, from different cities and countries, who live at various socioeconomic levels, and trust me, every one of us basically wants the same things.  We want validation, love, happiness, fulfillment, money, and hopes for a better future.  The way we pursue these needs is where things branch off, but the fundamentals are the same.
Think about it.  If I ask you, “Quickly, in one sentence, what do you want most out of life?” I bet your rushed response is going to be something like, “I want to be happy, and have a healthy family, and a career I like that pays well, etc.”  Your response is going to be so common and ubiquitous that it basically doesn’t even mean anything.  Which is precisely why senseless, happy-go-lucky questions like this aren’t very helpful.  And yet, this is precisely the kind of questions we often ask ourselves.
So what kind of questions might you ask instead?  Questions that force you into a corner.  Questions that help you embrace the sacrifices it takes to get where you want to go.
Questions that motivate you to focus on the next step forward.
  1. What is worth suffering for? – If you want the benefits of something in life, you have to also want the costs.  If you want the six-pack abs, you have to want the sweat, the sore muscles, the early mornings at the gym, and the low carb meals.  If you want the successful business, you have to also want the late nights, the risky business deals and decisions, and the possibility of failing fifty times to learn what you need to know to succeed.  If you find yourself wanting something month after month, year after year, yet nothing happens and you never come any closer to it, then maybe what you actually want is just an idealization, a fantasy, and a false promise.  Maybe you don’t actually want it at all, because you’re not willing to suffer though the work it’s going to take to achieve it.
  2. Based on my daily routines and actions, where can I expect to be in five years? – This question just backs up the first one.  If you have an idea about what you want the next chapter of your life to look like, you have to DO things that support this idea every day.  An idea, after all, isn’t going to do anything for you until you do something productive with it.  In fact, as long as that great idea is just sitting around in your head it’s doing far more harm than good.  Your subconscious mind knows you’re procrastinating on something that’s important to you.  The necessary work that you keep postponing causes stress, anxiety, fear, and usually more procrastination – a vicious cycle that continues to worsen until you interrupt it with ACTION.  (Read 7 Habits of Highly Effective People.)
  3. What do I need to spend more or less time doing going forward? – Most of us spend way too much time on what is urgent and not enough time on what is important.  In other words, productivity is not just about getting things done, it’s about getting the right things done.  At the end of each day, look at how you have spent your time, and adjust the allocation as necessary for tomorrow.  Do your best to get rid of your schedule’s complexities so you can spend more time on the things that matter.  This means fine-tuning and eliminating all but the essential tasks, so you are left with only the ones that add value to your life.  And above all, know when to set aside the important things for the vital things, like family.
  4. In service of what? – As Viktor Frankl so eloquently put it: “Don’t aim at success.  The more you aim at it and make it a target, the more you are going to miss it.  For success, like happiness, cannot be pursued, it must ensue, and it only does so as the unintended side effect of one’s personal dedication to a cause greater than one’s self.”  So think bigger.  Be a part of something greater than yourself.  This could be anything.  Some people take an active role in their local city council, some find refuge in their faith or family, some join social clubs supporting causes they resonate with, and others find passion in their careers.  In each case the psychological outcome is the same.  They engage themselves in something they strongly believe in.  This engagement brings happiness, success, and meaning into their lives.
  5. What am I pretending not to know? – Reality denied always comes back to haunt.  There are two ways to be fooled by your own subconscious.  One is to believe what isn’t true; the other is to refuse to believe what is true.  Both are tragic forms of self-deception, because the person who lies to herself and listens to her own lies comes to a point that she cannot distinguish the truth within her, or around her, and so loses respect for herself and for others she cares about.  Don’t be this person.  All possibilities open up when we stop deceiving ourselves.
  6. What old rejections are still holding me back today? – All too often we let the rejections of our past dictate every move we make.  We literally do not know ourselves to be any better than what some opinionated person or narrow circumstance once told us was true.  Of course, an old rejection doesn’t mean we aren’t good enough; it just means some person or circumstance from our past failed to align with what we had to offer at the time.  It means we were graced with more time to improve our thing – to build upon our ideas, to perfect our craft, and indulge deeper in to the work that moves us.  Don’t let old rejections take up permanent residence in your head.  Kick them out on the street. (Angel and I discuss this in more detail in the “Self-Love” chapter of 1,000 Little Things Happy, Successful People Do Differently.)
  7. What do I not want others to know about me? – This question cuts right to the heart of your insecurities.  Let it remind you that problems and flaws are a part of everyone’s life.  If you try to hide them, you don’t give the people in your life a chance to truly know you and love you.  And you allow small problems to escalate and dominate your self-confidence.  When you make a mistake, it might be irritating, but don’t bury it.  Be open about it, address it, and move on.  Our problems are really our blessings if we use them to grow stronger.  And, ultimately, the people who belong in your life will see your problems and flaws simply as signs that you are just as human as they are.
  8. Are the people around me helping me or hurting me? – A big part of who you become in life has to do with who you choose to surround yourself with.  And as you know, it is better to be alone than in bad company.  You simply cannot expect to live a positive, fulfilling life if you surround yourself with negative people.  Distancing yourself from these people is never easy, but it’s a lot harder when they happen to be close friends or family members.  As hard as it may be, it’s something you need to address.  To a certain degree, luck controls who walks into your life, especially as it relates to your family and childhood friends, but you decide who you spend the majority of your time with.
  9. How are my “shoulds” getting in the way of my “haves”? – The desires of our ego are often in conflict with the emotions of our heart.  Find your balance between planning and presence – between striving and appreciation.  Work hard, but don’t go looking for something better every second.  You must be willing to loosen your grip on the life you have planned so you can enjoy the life that is waiting for you in this moment.  It may not be everything you want for your future, but it’s everything you need right now.  Experience it and appreciate it.
  10. What is worth smiling about right now? – As Shawn Achor describes in his book The Happiness Advantage, a recent scientific study showed that doctors who are put in a positive mood before making a diagnosis consistently experience significant boosts to their intellectual abilities than doctors in a neutral state, which allows them to make accurate diagnoses almost 20% faster.  The same study then shifted to other vocations and found that optimistic salespeople outsell their pessimistic counterparts by over 50%.  Students primed to feel happy before taking math tests substantially outperform their neutral peers.  So it turns out that our minds are literally hardwired to perform at their best not when they are negative, or even neutral, but when they are positive.

Your turn…

At any given moment, life is filled with unanswered questions, but it is the courage to seek these answers that continues to give our lives meaning.  Honestly, you can spend your life wallowing in despair, wondering why you were the one who was led down a road strewn with trouble and confusion or you can be grateful that you are strong enough to survive it and step forward.
So with that said, which of the questions above hit home the most?  Why?  Leave a comment below and share your thoughts and insights.

Accessing Our Sacred Inner Gifts

 by Wes Annac –

Consciousness is expanding on earth like never before and we’re being given an endless amount of guidance and advice about this expansion and our entrance into a higher state of awareness. Gradually, everyone’s beginning to become aware of the reality of our existence and as we do, we seek to reclaim the deeper perception we’ve always had the ability to access.

Spiritual awareness will help us see the reality around us in a whole new way as we welcome the entrance of the light into our perspective and every worry and concern will fade when our greatest expansions take place and we feel the spiritual warmth set in.

Expansion will entail a lifting of the oppressive weight that’s held us down for so long here in the lower dimensions and this is why a growing number of seekers strive to expand as much as they can. Everyone deserves to become aware of the reality of spirit, and with our efforts, nobody will go without a spiritual understanding.
Nobody will have to miss out on the greatest and most profound truths that wait for us to remember them and as long as we start getting active in raising awareness, the consciousness of the planet will grow with increased rapidity.
Our evolution progresses based on what we do in every moment, and if we use as much time and energy as possible to inform and uplift others, we’ll raise the planetary consciousness in a much quicker timeframe than we would if we remained idle.

The cultivation of awareness is a very important part of our evolution, because we can’t shine our light on things we aren’t aware of. Most people naturally want to raise awareness about the paradigm-expanding things they learn and this makes our effort to sow political and spiritual awareness crucial.

As we’ll learn, our rising consciousness will entail heightened spiritual gifts that we’ll have earned by the work we put in to reach a higher vibration, and our effort to spread awareness will help these gifts flow in a pure and intensified way.
Spreading awareness is one of the best things we can do for ourselves and for humanity and there are plenty of ways we can inform and uplift others. Some of us might feel inclined to write; others might play music; some might become activists. No matter what method you use, your effort is very important.
You can serve humanity whether or not you feel inspired by the divine flow that eventually helps everyone find and pursue their greatest passion. There’s a unique role waiting for each of us, even those of us who don’t feel valuable to the earth’s ascension at all and opening up to the divine will help us discover our gifts and talents.
We’ll rediscover exactly what we’re meant to do to help others become aware when we open up to our greater perception and the latent gifts we hold within, and our evolutionary experience will be much easier and more enjoyable when we find our passion and flow with divinely inspired work that’s intended to uplift.

Following suit with the usual format, I’d like to examine some of the wonderful material our channeled sources have given us about the expansion taking place. It’d take report after report to cover all of the information they’ve given, but I’ll do my best to cover some of what’s been said here with appreciation for the vastness of the material out there.
This is one of many important subjects that have been addressed by independent channels and we’ll dive into the material with a quote from SaLuSa via Mike Quinsey about our increasing telepathy and intuition.
“As the vibrations begin to lift upon Earth some of you will find that your psychic powers increase, and that generally you are becoming more intuitive. It will help you to decide what to do when faced with a number of choices, and you will be able to go forward with confidence.” (1)
Our intuition can help us through important situations, and without it and its gentle yet powerful nudges, a lot of difficult circumstances could leave us stumped. The intuition always seems to be there when we need it most, but we have to attune to its ‘voice’ within.

To do this, we have to learn to start listening to it – to follow its nudges. It could be difficult at first, especially if what it’s nudging us toward is different from what our ego wants but with time and practice, listening to it will become much easier. As we practice, we’ll find that our mind and heart-centered telepathic abilities increase as well.

According to Archangel Michael via Ronna Herman, our increasing telepathic ability will make our integrity more essential than it already is. Nothing’s hidden in the light of the higher dimensions, and everything is seen, known, felt, and understood.
“As everyone’s telepathic and clairsentience skills are perfected, you will understand why truth, honor and integrity will become paramount.

“We are aware of the Light patterns that you emit, and also the resonance of your energetic signature, whether it is harmonious or discordant. We see your radiance or lack thereof, and you cannot hide who you truly are from us. In the near future, this gift will become the norm for many advanced Light Workers as well.” (2)
We’ll perceive ourselves and each other in a much deeper sense than we do now, and needless to say, the lower qualities that’ve secretly kept the world in motion will be exposed and understood for what they really are.
An increased collective perception will herald an illumination of darkness in every form, and we’ll eventually re-reach the perspective our guides possess – one of seeing and knowing everything in the light of Source. Personally, I look forward to knowing the people and guides around me in such a deep, harmonious way.

Mother Mary through Fran Zepeda encourages us to expand our perception of who we are and what we’re capable of, because we’re endowed with far more talent and love than we yet understand.
“So I ask of you dear ones, please keep opening up to your possibilities and your gifts as you explore the expansion that you are enjoying now, with no limits and no preconceived ideas.

“The more you let go and open to the possibilities of this New Light, the more you will progress along the path of deep awareness and experience of your rich inner worlds of Divinity. The more you surrender to it, the more you will experience the sweet music of grace and purity within you.” (3)
We have to be willing to surrender our limited perception of ourselves and understand that we’re divine beings who are capable of doing miraculous things to unlock the depth and richness of our developing higher-dimensional perception. If we’re willing to believe we’re capable of superhuman feats, we’ll achieve them without question.

If we could only understand our immense power, we’d be able to work away like never before on the awakening of humanity and the restoration of our beautiful planet.

This planet was once a glimmering celestial body that boasted fully conscious societies, and with our efforts, we’ll return her surface to this condition.

We’ll return our society to the brimming state of consciousness that was once prevalent, and in doing so, we’ll enable other planets and civilizations to experience the expansion and evolution we’re currently experiencing. Isn’t it interesting to think that we’re affecting the entire planet and all of creation with our actions on the earth?
Speaking through Elizabeth Ayres Escher, Mother Mary also encourages us not to worry if we don’t initially grasp some of the greater concepts we’re starting to remember.
“Do not fret, dear ones, if your logical mind cannot yet grasp these concepts, as the left side of the brain was designed to allow you to function while in a constrained environment. That playground has now expanded to incorporate hitherto unseen worlds that have always existed side by side with your own physical world.” (4)
The higher realms have always been right here with us, but we’ve existed under a lower-dimensional filter that’s temporarily blocked our perception of these realms. We’ve come here to learn and grow in a constricted environment, and our experience would have no substance if we were automatically able to perceive the amazing realms beyond.

We have to thrive under the limitation of the earth before we can greet the higher realms and for the purpose of growth and learning, we’ve willingly taken on the veil of forgetfulness we’re now piercing as we learn so much new and interesting information.

We still have far more to learn before we pierce it for good but with all of the things we’re learning already, I think it’s safe to say that we’re making progress. We’ve done a lot of significant things to help humanity evolve so far, but to continue expanding, we have to keep striving to raise consciousness and awareness.

Mother Mary then reminds us that we’re becoming much more than we yet realize. Our ongoing evolution is taking us into new and unknown territory, and we’re encouraged to continuously expand our perception of ourselves.
“Now you will begin to find the doors between the worlds being opened up so you may step through them. Allow your image of what constitutes ‘self’ [to] expand as more and more of your ‘pieces’ of greater Self settle into your etheric and physical bodies. You are in the process of becoming more than what you have appeared, to both yourself and to others.” (5)
We’re expanding in every way, but despite what we’ve already learned, we still have a lot of growing to do. We have to be willing to accept that we’re far more than we’ve been programmed to believe if we want to experience the greatest perceptual gifts the divine has to offer, and in my opinion, instilled limitation is a mental poison that’s been used to keep the common person from acting on their true potential.
Individually, we’re pretty powerful but collectively we can do far more than we give ourselves credit for. If everyone teamed up with a collective understanding of our power and the weight we carry, we could easily take this planet back in the name of the light and build the fair and just society we talk so much about.
It’d be pretty easy to claim independence from the cabal’s rule if we were all united in the cause but unfortunately, complacency has replaced motivation and kept us too busy with trivial things to care about holding them accountable or restoring the plant. The conscious public is tasked with changing this, among plenty of other things and nothing stops us from getting to work but ourselves.
The Sirians via Elizabeth Ayres Escher tell us about the foggy unawareness that’s stopped us from connecting with our family beyond, as well as the collective awakening taking place and the increased abilities that come with it.
“For many thousands of years it has been difficult for your off-world relatives to contact you, as your ears have been stopped up by false beliefs and overpowered by the desire of your rational mind to discount all things existing outside the parameters set by your five physical senses.

“Now that the planet has succeeded in reaching a certain level of frequency, the way stands open for many to begin to suddenly awaken, as a whole new set of meta-senses comes online… clairsentience, clairaudience, clair-cognizance, telepathy and many gifts that are naturally the birthright of the human race.” (6)
As we break through the rigid mental structures that’ve taught us to discount anything that can’t be physically studied, we open up to the deeper gifts and revelations we’ve forgotten about. In doing so, we’ll enable everyone to experience the heightened gifts that come with a purer state of consciousness.
I can only imagine what it’ll be like when everyone’s aware of the reality of their existence and starts cultivating the immense abilities they rediscover. I can foresee a lot of workshops geared toward helping people develop their abilities, but ultimately, the best guidance and advice comes from within.

Opening up to the guidance of the heart is the best thing we can do for ourselves because it gives us specific guidance that pertains to us personally. We can only learn so much from another person and at the end of the day, the energy and advice within is the best and most valuable.

Especially when it comes to expanding and developing our abilities, we’ll benefit most from finding and maintaining an active spiritual connection. The Constant Companions via Aisha North urge us to wake up from our instated slumber so we can access our greater, dormant gifts.
“So that is why we say go within, and do so with the intent of one that is actively seeking the greatness that has been lying dormant there for eons.

“For you are like Sleeping Beauty, someone who has been kept sedated for such a long time, it can take forever to wake up again. But wake up you must, for in order to face the future, you must have removed those last vestiges of induced sleep from your own being.” (7)
Moving beyond the weary ego can be pretty difficult, but it’s essential if we want to unlock our greatest perceptual gifts. We have to fill ourselves with the livelihood that enables us to embrace the challenges that come with evolving instead of hiding away from them, and from what we’ve learned so far, it seems as if moving beyond the ego is the absolute best thing we can do for ourselves.
The tricks of the mind can make our ascension process difficult if we continue to let them dismay us, and only by completely moving beyond their influence can we access the heart space and develop our endless abilities. These abilities might initially surprise us because of their paradigm-expanding nature, but eventually, we’ll accept that we truly are capable of using them.
Our growing connection with Source will cause an endless refinement of our higher-dimensional abilities, and we can take the first step in developing them by moving beyond the mind and into the fullness of the open heart.

The Constant Companions also tell us that awakening from our slumber can be uncomfortable at first because of the knowledge we gain and the sensations we feel.

“It can feel uncomfortable at first, much like the sensation when blood returns to a limb that has been numbed down for a while. But remember, all of these ‘needles and pins’ you will experience on the way are truly a sign of you finally waking up.

“For that is what this whole process is all about, waking up to the fact that you are a far more powerful being than what you have thought yourself to be, and as such, the process can very much be likened to a patient who has been in coma for years, suddenly coming to.” (8)
A lot of people are awakening in a very rapid manner, and this can cause some confusion followed by an open embrace of our abilities. We’ll continue to grow and develop from here, and if we’re actively vested in pursuing a greater perception, we’ll accelerate the process and make it much more enjoyable.

We’re certainly going to enjoy developing our abilities and every step up the ladder will be more blissful than the last. We’ll learn to create in interesting and amazing ways and the dreariness that’s accompanied the earth for so long will be replaced with enthusiasm to actively explore the states of consciousness opening up for us.

I envision a revolution of awakening, multidimensional souls who actively and excitedly develop their abilities but it can only be started if we begin exploring what we’re capable of now.

We’re then told that getting used to our greater perception will become easier with time and practice.
“And so it will be a period of bewilderment and confusion for you all, for you will need to get acquainted with that ‘new abode’ of yours we referred to in an earlier message. Remember, you have left that old and cramped flat behind, and now, you inhabit far more spacious living quarters than before, and one that has a whole new set of rooms with which you need to get acquainted with.” (9)
We have to become familiar with our greater perception before we can all-out feel it, and if we were suddenly whisked away to the fifth dimension, we might be overwhelmed and wishing we could go back to the comfortable lower spheres to continue our growth as its intended to be experienced.
Some of us might even feel uncomfortable in the fourth dimension, and it’s essential that we experience the steady yet rapid growth we’ve planned to experience. Awareness and enlightenment are wonderful things, but they have to be earned; they can’t just be effortlessly attained.
Electra Osara via Natalie Glasson tells us about the clarity our ‘refreshing breeze’ of awareness will bring to us.
“This vibration akin to a refreshing breeze will bring clarity and softness to the energetic structures of your mind. The mind and mental body when its focus is locked upon the 3rd dimensions can contain rigid and hard energetic patterns making it difficult to move beyond consciousness already obtained.

“As the rigidity of the energetic patterns dissolves, the mind and mental body are able to breathe, freely expanding in order to collect and process new consciousness and understanding.” (10)
We can’t let the mind’s woes keep us down, and if we do, we’ll solidify the energy we’re giving out and make it harder to receive the divine flow. The divine is all around and waits for us to pick up on and understand it, but it’s essential that we meet it on a higher level by moving beyond the influence of the discouraging and disparaging ego.
As Electra Osara tells us below, the help our guides are giving is intended to soften the density that fogs our perception so we can feel the divine flow in an easier way.
“As we plant the pure love of our consciousness into your mind our gift and purpose is to soften the influence of the physical dimension upon your mind, therefore you are more easily able to project freely flowing experience into your reality rather than limited or restrictive experience.” (11)

Our guides are helping soften the negativity around us so we’re better able to feel the energy descending down, and we can welcome their assistance when we open up to its reality.

They’re here to help us re-find the divine and move beyond the constraint and limitation of the lower mind, and I think we owe it to ourselves and them to open up to their guidance.

We owe it to ourselves because they have a lot of important things to tell us, and we owe it to them because they’ve worked pretty hard to help us become aware. They’re working to help us remember that everything’s truly ok and that we don’t have to succumb to the mind-centered stress that keeps us down, and personally, I’ve found this guidance very helpful.
Our vibration will continue to rise as we’re introduced to various things that’ll expand our definition of what reality is and can be, and our efforts to steadily cultivate a higher vibration are important to our development and that of the people around us.
Our efforts to connect with our guides raise our vibration and the awareness of the planet, and for this reason, getting out of our minds is essential.
We have a lot of important and inspired work to do in this new era of heightened awareness, and our divine abilities will become clearer and clearer as our awareness grows to new and unexpected heights. Let’s keep at our efforts to re-find the divine and the abilities that come with it, because we’re destined to change the world.
