Doing the Best We Can

Remember That We’re All Doing the Best We Can:
I’m sometimes amazed and embarrassed by how critical I can be – both of other people and of myself.  Even though I both teach and practice the power of appreciation (as well as acceptance, compassion, authenticity and more) when I find myself feeling scared, threatened or insecure (which happens more often than I’d like it to), I notice that I can be quite judgmental.  Sadly, as I’ve learned throughout my life, being critical and judgmental never works, feels good or leads me to what I truly want in my relationships and in my life.  Maybe you can you relate to this yourself?
I’ve recently been challenged by a few situations and relationships that have triggered an intense critical response – both towards myself and those involved.  As I’ve been noticing this, working through it and looking for alternative ways to respond, I’m reminded of something I heard Louise Hay say a number of years ago.  She said, “It’s important to remember that people are always doing the best they can, including you.”
The power of this statement resonated with me deeply when I heard it and continues to have an impact on me to this day.  And, although I sometimes forget this, when I do remember that we’re all doing the best we can given whatever tools and resources we have (and given the circumstances and situations we’re experiencing), it usually calms me down and creates a sense of compassion for the people I’m dealing with and for myself.
Unfortunately, too often we take things personally that aren’t, look for what’s wrong, and critically judge the people around us and ourselves, instead of bringing a sense of love, understanding, acceptance, forgiveness, and appreciation to the most important (and often most challenging) situations and relationships in our lives.
When we take a step back and remember that most of the time people aren’t “out to get us,” purposefully doing things to upset or annoy us, or consciously trying to make mistakes, disappoint us, or create difficulty (they’re simply doing the best they can and what they think makes the most sense) – we can save ourselves from unnecessary overreactions and stress.  And, when we’re able to have this same awareness and compassion in how we relate to ourselves, we can dramatically alter our lives and relationships in a positive way.
Things you can do and remember in this regard:
  • Give people the benefit of the doubt. Most of the time people have good intentions.  Many of us, myself included, have been trained to be cautious and suspicious of others, even seeing this as an important and effective skill in life and business.  However, we almost always get what we expect from people, so the more often we give people the benefit of the doubt, the more often they will prove us “right,” and the less often we will waste our precious time and energy on cynicism, suspicion, and judgment.
  • Don’t take things personally. One of my favorite sayings is, “You wouldn’t worry about what other people think about you so much, if you realized how little they actually did.”  The truth is that most people are focused on themselves much more than on us.  Too often in life we take things personally that have nothing to do with us.  This doesn’t mean we let people walk all over us or treat us in disrespectful or hurtful ways (it can be important for us to speak up and push back at times in life).  However, when we stop taking things so personally, we liberate ourselves from needless upset, defensiveness, and conflict.
  • Look for the good. Another way to say what I mentioned above about getting what we expect from other people is that we almost always find what we look for.  If you want to find some things about me that you don’t like, consider obnoxious, or get on your nerves – just look for them, I’m sure you’ll come up with some.  On the flip side, if you want to find some of my best qualities and things you appreciate about me, just look for those – they are there too.  As Werner Erhard said, “In every human being there is both garbage and gold, it’s up to us to choose what we pay attention to.” Looking for the good in others (as well as in life and in ourselves), is one of the best ways to find things to appreciate and be grateful for.
  • Seek first to understand. Often when we’re frustrated, annoyed, or in conflict with another person (or group of people), we don’t feel seen, heard, or understood.  As challenging and painful as this can be, one of the best things we can do is to shift our attention from trying to get other people to understand us (or being irritated that it seems like they don’t), is to seek to understand the other person (or people) involved in an authentic way. This can be difficult, especially when the situation or conflict is very personal and emotional to us. However, seeking to understand is one of the best ways for us to liberate ourselves from the grip of criticism and judgment, and often helps shift the dynamic of the entire thing. Being curious, understanding, and even empathetic of another person and their perspective or feelings doesn’t mean we agree with them, it simply allows us to get into their world and see where they’re coming from – which is essential to letting go of judgment, connecting with them, and ultimately resolving the conflict.
  • Be gentle with others (and especially with yourself). Being gentle is the opposite of being critical. When we’re gentle, we’re compassionate, kind, and loving. We may not like, agree with, or totally understand what someone has done (or why), but we can be gentle in how we respond and engage with them. Being gentle isn’t about condoning or appeasing anyone or anything, it’s about having a true sense of empathy and perspective. And, the most important place for us to bring a sense of gentleness is to ourselves. Many of us have a tendency to be hyper self-critical. Sadly, some of the harshest criticism we dole out in life is aimed right at us. Another great saying I love is, “We don’t see people as they are, we see them as we are.” As we alter how we relate to ourselves, our relationship to everyone else and to the world around us is altered in a fundamental way.
As the Dalai Lama so brilliantly says, “If you want others to be happy, practice compassion. If you want to be happy, practice compassion.”

Everyone around us – our friends, co-workers, significant other, family members, children, service people, clients and even people we don’t know or care for – are doing the best they can, given the resources they have.

When we remember this and come from a truly compassionate perspective (with others and with ourselves), we’re able to tap into a deeper level of peace, appreciation and fulfillment.

The Body of Oneness

Your body is an expression of the living Oneness, a temple for the Divine presence. When you’re disconnected from yourself, you’re out of touch with your essence and nature; and you’re not resonating with the rest of the world. This disconnect keeps you from enjoying the many blessings and bliss of Oneness.

Today, take a moment to be still, becoming aware of your breath. Imagine that your body is like a stringed instrument that needs tuning. This adjustment will bring you into presence, putting you back in sync with the world. Being fully present in yourself means being perpetually in tune, ready to vibrate with each moment as it unfolds. Neither rejecting nor preferring any sensation, emotion or experience, you embrace the Oneness of life. This practice reconnects you to your natural state of wholeness.

Begin by tuning into your body. Pay attention to any sensations that may appear as tension, energy, deadness, numbness, aliveness, pleasure, or any other emotion. Allow yourself to become present to your body, gently noticing your judgments, fears, distractions, and projections as they float to the surface. Return to your breath and acknowledge the truth that your body is a temple, an expression of the living Oneness.
Continue scanning your entire body. Begin with your feet and move slowly toward your head, observing and feeling each sensation: tingling, tension, energy, temperature, softness, pulsing, and so forth. Proceed slowly and examine each distinct part: your feet, ankles, calves, knees, thighs, pelvis, buttocks, belly, chest, back, shoulders, neck, and head. Give yourself time to complete this; it usually only takes ten minutes or so.
Assess your breathing. Is it deep or shallow? Fast or slow? Simply allow it to be. Pay attention to how your body responds to your breath: the rise and fall of your chest and belly, the air moving through your nostrils and throat, and your lungs pressing gently into your back. Become aware of your breath reaching all the way down to your feet. How does it feel there? In your hands? Your head?
Tune in to the subtleties of your body. Feel your heartbeat and relax into its simple, steady beat . . . the pulse of life that connects all things.
Now allow your body to rest in gentle awareness and loving compassion. Tap into the vibration, thought and feeling of absolute love. You may first feel it in your toes, your eyes, or in your throat—wherever its origin, let it grow until it encompasses your entire being. Experience absolute unconditional love. Feel everything—your cells, glands, bones, blood, and nervous system—vibrate to the frequency of love. Make this your intention now. Breathe love and compassion into your body temple. Allow it to move like a wave, cresting and falling. Feel the ecstasy of life and love flow through you. Bathe in this delight; feel the luminosity within you.
Pay attention to any area of your body that’s speaking to you. It may be a part that feels tense or painful, or perhaps it feels warm and relaxed. Be fully present and listen for its wisdom and guidance, for your body holds a wealth of information and connects you with the deeper truths of Oneness. In Oneness, all aspects of life are expressions of the Divine that inspire and guide you—your body is an example of this truth.
Play with this practice throughout the day, especially when you feel tired, out of sorts or disconnected. Within a few minutes of engaging in this, you can return to presence. Remember that your body can be used as an instrument of Oneness or of separation.

Today, choose to focus your body temple as an expression of the living Oneness. Let it guide you into a deep, meaningful resonance and relationship with the world.


I AM fully alive and thriving in this moment, in tune with my body and the world.

I AM a Divine temple, an expression of the living Oneness.

Fine-Tuning Your Vibrational Frequency

What you manifest directly correlates with the essence of your energy. Your feeling states are barometers for your thoughts, beliefs and spiritual understandings. If you hold negative feelings toward anyone or anything, this pulls down your feeling state and your energetic resonance.
When we manifest from low-vibrational energies, we experience roadblocks, disappointments, illness, accidents, and overall feelings of being out of sync with the universe. 
These experiences are not a “punishment” but wakeup calls to examine the beliefs, intentions, motivations, visions, and identities we currently hold.
Every being is holographic to all-that-is. As a spark of infinity, we contain the entire energetic spectrum. Because we contain it all, we can choose to focus on any aspect along the spectrum of human potential. 
In other words, we can choose to focus on any aspect of our being and energize it into our physical reality.
When we take 100% responsibility for all our experiences – when we accept the power and authority of our role as Divine and infinite beings – we open to receive all the joy, love and blessings the universe has to offer.

Conscious Skills to Co-Create a New Reality

We greet you beloved as together we witness the dawning of the new age. This new age, this new reality of consciousness is being called forth by you. You are the instrument, the conscious voice, the frequency and the vibration that is bringing about the changes. There are tremendous changes occurring. 
We realize that in saying this you look out at your world and shake your head for there are still deep levels of dysfunction happening on the planet. There is still discord being generated, especially by your media and those who run that aspect of reality. It is the focus upon this discord that engages the collective matrix and anyone who is still engaged in their own separate polarity will anchor the discord.
This is your personal opportunity to step into your power. 
You are being called forth to anchor a different reality. You are being invited to anchor a reality in which there is harmony and well-being. We continue to encourage each individual to realize that you personally can hold the vision, the emotional frequency of a reality that supports all life. It is this awareness within each awakened individual that is truly calling forth a world in which there is peace within the hearts and minds of the collective.
This conscious action is taking place moment to moment in your lives and activities. You become the means of stability as you continue to hold the stable vision and offer the healing of the heart frequency into your experience. We realize that what we are inviting you to express can feel impossible considering what is being out-pictured in the world events.
This is where your mastery is being activated. This is where you claim your magnificence as a multidimensional being. 
You are not powerless. You are truly powerful beyond measure. Step into that realization, allow yourself to just imagine, even pretend, that you have these superpowers that allow you to offer the collective the opportunity to heal. Imagine that you have the superpowers to transform any event occurring in your reality. These superpowers are always used only for the highest and the best for all concerned.
Each time you hear or see some discord or dysfunction, immediately offer the quantum field of all possibilities a new and different scenario. Just imagine you are a multidimensional editor of the production that is being projected on the screen of reality. Imagine you can re-write the script. Imagine that you can re-write the outcome of any event, in your personal life or in the collective.
How would you orchestrate the news broadcast if anything were possible? 
Allow yourself to expand into the realms of light and truth in which the entire broadcast would be news of outstanding new inventions that offer solutions to your environment’s well-being, or the announcement of a phenomenal new discovery in the healing of your physical form. Allow yourself to imagine feeling and even expressing the excitement of the extraordinary unfolding news of peace taking place upon your planet.
Realize that your news broadcast invites and offers an opportunity for you to focus on a different outcome. Imagine you could shift the situation or event being reported. By your clear focused consciousness, see and feel a different solution, call forth the vision, the intention and the healing energy of transformation. This is your opportunity to use your conscious skills and alchemical mastery to co-create a new reality.
Play with this possibility that you can call forth a more harmonious, more loving, more conscious experience.
Imagine your work situation, allow yourself to envision how you would like this to unfold, feel it, allow your vibrations to own what it is you desire. 
Imagine your relationship with your family, your loved ones, see or sense in this playful imaginary reality that they are responding to you in a loving, conscious and supportive manner. See yourself responding in a more loving and conscious manner to those in your life.
If there is an issue of dysfunction in your past, imagine yourself traveling the time line and editing that experience. Make sure when you edit any experience that it is in the highest form of healing for all concerned. You can use sounds to shift and transform and edit this experience.
This is where it all begins, in the field of energy, the quantum field of all possibility. 
Your personal power is holding the vision, the vibration and frequency until it manifests in physical form. You call it forth by what you are offering with your thoughts, words, beliefs and emotions. If it feels impossible to do this from your present situation, we invite you to pretend and claim your superpowers to shift and transform any situation.
There is an intense shift taking place within the hearts and minds of all humans. Some are resisting, some are confused, and some are celebrating this shift in consciousness. Each individual is awakening to their true connection to the collective consciousness. Each individual is beginning to recognize and own the awareness that all is one. 
When you shift an attitude, when you shift a belief, when you release a judgment it is felt in the collective matrix.
When you envision, when you hold the awareness of compassion, love and appreciation in your heart frequency, you are adding this to the collective consciousness. You are imprinting the quantum field with your personal vibration of compassion, love and appreciation. You are claiming your superpowers as a multidimensional starbeing. You are claiming your personal connection to the Divine Source as a true focus and anchor of transformational energy. 
You are calling forth a new reality. 
Your energy frequency and your visional vibration are joining others of like mind and heart. Once these visions of life-sustaining energy gather in the infinite field of creation they become form, they are made manifest. 
Each time you send forth a vision, a desire that is generated from the chalice of your heart’s awareness; it goes forth and joins the vibrations and frequencies of similar entrainments. This becomes a force of change. This becomes an energy field calling forth and anchoring a new pattern, a new paradigm.
We honor and celebrate who you are as conscious divine multidimensional starbeings. You are truly making a difference in the lives of others each time you send forth your blessings of peace, your blessings of compassion. Each time you send forth your energy of forgiveness, you are uplifting the collective consciousness. Each time you envision a different and more life-sustaining outcome you are literally calling it forth. Do not be discouraged; hold the visions, and pretend the visions. Allow your sixth senses of knowing to emerge. 
Allow yourself to step into your superpowers of co-creating a better world.
Call forth support and assistance from the realms of Light and Love. Be the inviter of this divine presence and invite divine spirit in all its magnificence to join you in the transformation and healing of all that is before you. Know that you are loved beyond measure.

Roles of Support: Doing Our Best Work

In the great symphony of life, we all have important parts to play. 
Each one of us is very much needed and we all have our role to play adding to the success of the whole. While some people are best suited to be conductors or soloists, their contributions would be diminished considerably without the individual musicians that lend their artistry to the fullness of an orchestra. 
The magical accents of the percussion section might sound random and out of place without the music they accompany. But any one member of an orchestra, doing less than their best at their particular part, can destroy the harmony of the whole piece, such is their importance. So although we may not receive the same amount or quality of attention as another, all of our contributions are valuable and integral to the success of the whole.
When we do our tasks well, we infuse them with our unique energy, making each act a gift. 
Each of our personalities and talents are suited to different roles of support. Even leaders and star performers support others in their own way. We can look around us at any moment to see that while we nurture some people with our work, others are supporting us with their gifts. Doing any job from this place within us allows us to do our part with humility and gratitude, while also learning lessons that move us steadily toward our goals.
When we can be fully present in every job that we do, we bring the fullness of our bodies, minds and spirits to the moment. 
Our contribution is enhanced by the infusion of our talents and abilities and when we give them willingly, they attract the right people and circumstances into our experience. Anything we do begrudgingly limits the flow of our energy and closes us off from the good that is available to us in every situation. By giving the best in us to make the world around us better, we open ourselves to receive the best from the universe in return.

A New Way of Looking at the World

GlobalShiftNowThe Universe is Conscious on All Levels – Consciousness is not confined to the minds of humans and animals. Anything that maintains itself as an organized whole is conscious. Organs and cells within the body are conscious. Even atoms and molecules are conscious. So are solar systems and galaxies. Does that mean they have minds and thoughts like we do? Probably not. Consciousness is understood as an intrinsic property of the universe capable of being self-organizing, self-maintaining, and resistant to entropy (entropy is a general tendency in the universe for things to move from order to disorder).

There are not two worlds—an objective world of science and a subjective, personal world grasped by religion, art, and the humanities. There is only one world or universe that can only be fully grasped by both science and spirituality—both the physical senses and intuition. To separate them is an artificial distinction we humans make based on the dubious assumption that only empirical knowledge of the senses (scientific knowledge) is valid.

IMPLICATION: If there is only one universe that has both an outer, objective and an inner, spiritual aspect— and if it’s conscious on all levels— then we come to see it as much more than a neutral, purposeless object for scientific investigation. We come to look at our earth and the universe at large as a conscious, living being, something we regard with reverence and awe. We treat the environment as a matrix that supports and nurtures us—not as a commodity to be exploited for profit.

A New Way of Looking at Ourselves – Each of us is connected with the consciousness of collective humanity and the Cosmos at large. “To thine own self be true” means to align yourself with these larger fields of consciousness.

Being true to your deepest, innermost self is to align with intentions that lie beyond your personal ego. These intentions reside in your soul. Your soul, in turn, connects with the collective consciousness of humanity and ultimately the universe at large. The more you act from your soul (instead of your ego), the more you begin to express purposes and intentions larger than yourself. Although this idea may seem radical, it is not a new idea. The old way of saying it is “to do the Will of God.”

IMPLICATION: There is more to life than ego. If the deepest intentions of our soul reflect the intelligence of collective humanity and the cosmos at large, then each of us will —sooner or later— feel “called” to do something more than just fulfill our personal ego needs. Each of us has a personal mission or “calling” —perhaps several—where we give back and contribute to something or someone beyond ourselves. It doesn’t matter how large or small this is. Doing a menial job well could be what we have to contribute. It is the quality of consciousness, the spirit of giving, that we bring to our mission, that counts.

A New Way of Looking at Each Other – All minds are ultimately One. This is reflected in the saying, popular since the sixties: “We are all one.”

At depth, our seemingly separate minds are simply different aspects of the same universal consciousness. Thus we are deeply interdependent, more than our conscious egos recognize. So much so that our consciousness is influenced by the consciousness of those we care about and love, no matter how far apart we are in space. When a loved one far away feels joy or sorrow, we register it somewhere in our psyches, even if we do not recognize it consciously. Everyday happenings illustrate our interconnectedness. 

We may find ourselves thinking about a friend, and then suddenly they call us. We may feel sad for no obvious reason, and then find out later that someone dear to us had a bad experience around the time we felt sad. In short, we are not isolated, autonomous units. Each of our minds is a node in an interdependent network of many other minds, some of which we may not even know, and perhaps some of which may not even be embodied.

IMPLICATION: The realization that we are—in truth—all one as a common humanity helps to erode the barriers our egos create to separate ourselves from others: racial, religious, ethnic, national, gender, age, and so on. Beneath the surface we are ultimately the same in our basic needs and aspirations. The Golden Rule: “Do Unto Others as You Would Have Them Do Unto Yourself” is not just a lofty moral injunction, it reflects the actual structure of reality (all seeming separate minds are aspects of a common consciousness).
